Benjamin S. Edwards (1818-1886), a Springfield, Illinois lawyer, was a son of Illinois governor Ninian Edwards and brother of Ninian W. Edwards. He married Helen Kissam Dodge in 1839. They had three daughters: Helen Marie (1840-1925), a student at Monticello Female Seminary (1855-1856), who married Moses Condell in 1861; Alice (1844-1921), nicknamed Ally; and Mary (b. 1848) , nicknamed Mollie.
